Salmonella Alert: Popular Meal Delivery Service Linked to Outbreak

On September 5, 2025, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported a Salmonella outbreak in the United States linked to ready-to-eat meal deliveries from Metabolic Meals.

Outbreak Details

  • Number of cases: 16 people in 10 U.S. states have fallen ill.
  • Time frame: Symptoms started between July 24 and August 15, 2025.
  • Hospitalizations: 7 people were hospitalized, but no deaths were reported.
  • Investigations: Epidemiologists found that some ready-to-eat meals from Metabolic Meals may have been contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis.

Affected Meals

The meals that could be contaminated include:

  • Four-Cheese Tortellini with Pesto Sauce and Grilled Chicken
    Batch code: 25199
    Expiration date: August 7, 2025
  • Low-Carb Teriyaki Chicken with Veggies
    Batch code: 25202
    Expiration date: August 5, 2025
  • Black Garlic Ranch Chicken Fingers with Roasted Veggies
    Batch code: 25205
    Expiration date: August 8, 2025
  • Top Round Steak with Roasted Peanut Sauce and Summer Vegetables
    Batch code: 25203
    Expiration date: August 6, 2025

Tests found Salmonella Enteritidis in samples from sick people, suggesting these meal deliveries are the likely source of the outbreak.

What You Should Do

  • Throw away affected meals: If you bought any of these meals, throw them out immediately or contact Metabolic Meals for guidance.
  • Clean surfaces: Wash any counters, utensils, or containers that touched the meals with hot soapy water or in a dishwasher.
  • Watch for symptoms: If you develop diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps, or other serious symptoms, contact your healthcare provider right away.

How to Stay Safe

  • Cook food thoroughly: Make sure meats and eggs are fully cooked.
  • Wash hands: Always wash your hands after handling food or touching potentially contaminated surfaces.
  • Store food properly: Keep food at safe temperatures to prevent bacterial growth.
